J. Wickham “Wick” Zimmerman has been flying for more than 30 years. His childhood dream was to get his pilot’s license and move to the beach to fly a banner plane up and down the shore all day advertising drink specials and beer.
Meet Philip Goforth, an ATLAS-modified Cessna CitationJet flyer with an aviation career as unique as it is adventurous! Goforth began flying at a young age in Alaska, piloting bush missions before converting to a commercial pilot with a penchant for playing with gyrocopters and variety of other flying machines. He has been highly involved in International Formula 1 Pylon Air Racing for 11 years, serving as Pilot Commuter Chair for 3 years before being elected Formula 1 Class President in 2017. Since the December 2019 Active Winglet installation, he has been greatly pleased with the CitationJet’s advanced performance echelon. Tamarack is delighted to see such a versatile pilot using our technology on a regular basis!
Prospects often ask me when their investment in active winglets will show a return, to which I say, “immediately.” This answer rarely satisfies anyone; however, it reveals one of the most interesting aspects of the business: the process of making connections and establishing priorities with a prospect to determine a return. With more than 100 sets of active winglets in our ever-growing family, there is a multitude of reasons people have chosen to make this investment. Such a large spectrum of customers means different priorities and concepts of what a return looks like.
Like so many other industries, the COVID-19 global health crisis has left a significant impact on the aviation world. Overall aircraft travel has declined rapidly as questions about how to maintain social distance in confined spaces like airplanes remain unanswered. However, flying is not a thing of the past.

I have always felt a special sense of reward when flying alongside prospective customers and sharing the remarkable performance of our Tamarack® Active Winglet System - if only I had a chance to fly with every operator out there, we could learn so much together!

When flying a Citation Jet with Pitch Mode on Autopilot, I can climb to the maximum certified ceiling without much attention to speed, or needing to change modes while ascending. It is important to understand and become aware of Pitch Mode, which is the default autopilot mode; you can simply adjust pitch angle manually with the thumb-roll, just like when adjusting FLC or Vertical Speed.
