Job Description:

Responsible for safe execution of flight test program to support Supplemental Type Certificate efforts under FAA or EASA regulations. Support the development and approval of detailed flight test plans and participate in Test Readiness Reviews. Attend pre-flight and post-flight debriefings. Define, execute and review the technical process of specific tests plans and document special instructions and test limitations. Define experimental flight test procedures and provide support for aircraft release and test as well as operate as a qualified experimental pilot in command. Provide leadership and support of other flight crewmembers. Develop a complete understanding of all cabin experimental provisions and mission specific test instrumentation. Confirm test aircraft configuration for tests, including test instrumentation prior to testing. Develop and use analytical tools to analyze flight test data to ensure results are valid and related to standard conditions. Produce flight test reports to show compliance with the applicable certification requirements. Strong familiarity with FAA or EASA flight testing processes and procedures required. Working knowledge of aircraft systems and operations is required.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidate will be responsible for properly assessing flight characteristics and documentation against FAA or EASA Part 23 and Part 25 requirements and special conditions. Candidate must be able to perform the duties of flight test pilot, primarily flying aircraft that do not meet the minimum standards for FAA/EASA certified aircraft (Experimental) in a flight test environment. Flights performed will be used to show compliance with applicable airworthiness standards and will be flown within the established operational envelope of the test aircraft, and some testing will require flight outside the established operational envelope to validate expansion of the envelope. Aircraft will be equipped with new and uncertified performance enhancing technology.

Specific tasks include:

  • Writing and submitting flight test plans
  • Flight test scheduling
  • Flight test reporting, including composing compliance reports
  • Aircraft mission and field performance modeling
  • Stability and control analysis
  • Analysis of flight test results to correct for standard conditions
  • Airplane flight manual development
  • Flight dynamics simulation
  • Correction of flight test data to standard conditions

Requirements:

  • Valid FAA pilot certificate and have or be able to obtain a 2nd class medical
  • Commercial multi-engine land and multi-engine instrument ratings
  • Minimum 6 years company or FAA/EASA flight test experience
  • Verifiable flight test time of at least:
    • 5,000 hours total logged flying hours
    • 2,000 hours multi engine aircraft
    • 1,000 hours turbo prop, turbo fan, or turbo jet
    • 500 hours in turbo fan or turbo jet aircraft
    • 50 hours in the Cessna 525 (525A, 525B) preferred but not required
    •      
  • Current or prior pilot rating in the Cessna 525 (525A, 525B) strongly preferred
  • Understanding of aerospace engineering principles and concepts related to aircraft aerodynamics, configuration, performance, and flight dynamics
  • Capable of simple hand calculations during early product development stages through to full computer simulations, testing and documentation for final certification
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and must function well in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Familiarity with computational analysis and CFD methods is a plus
  • Familiarity with FAR Part 23 and Part 25 certification requirements required
  • Read, write and understand the English language

Education:

B.S. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of applied flight test experience required

Other:

  • Must be able to pass an FAA/DOT pre-employment drug test
  • Candidate must have valid US driver’s license
  • Candidate must have or have the ability to obtain a US passport
  • Pay commensurate with experience and skill
  • Periodic travel should be expected
